1. Traveling/Donations :)

    Hey all,

As many of you know I am 1) broke, but working and 2) having to take expensive last minute trips around the country for interviews to further my music industry career - which seems backwards, but I promise it’s not!  These interviews are some of my only opportunities to really make it, but unfortunately they’re not all in Chicago.

I thought I’d give this a try for myself in order to raise funds for flights and travel expenses since the thought of having to use my credit card or other non-existent money once again is a little scary.  Most of you who are reading this want me to get my career moving, and so do I!

It’s near impossible to travel to these awesome opportunities for interviews now, but it’s even harder for me to have to turn them down.

So, if you or someone you know are feeling a bit generous today, this would help me out so much!  I can think of things - complimentary tickets or guest-list at shows or SOMEthing cool as a thank you (although I do thank you for at least reading this) but this is more about raising the bare minimum of money I need to continue traveling to get my career going ASAP.  This is just one idea that I’ve thought of to help myself be able to travel for opportunities, any more ideas are definitely welcome! And yep, I already babysit.

Any amount really REALLY helps and I will figure out a way to guarantee to you that it is solely being used for flights and travel FOR my interviews that come up.  Thanks! :)

  5. This is what I want to do.

i’ve never written one of these, not too big into blogging - although i totally did it years ago before it started being the norm and got made fun of too, if i can remember.

anyways, i make a lot of statuses or statements about my “career” and wanting to just share what’s been going on/what exactly i’m looking to do since i’m always asked.

ever since I was probably in preschool/kindergarten, i have wanted a career in the entertainment industry.  i was interested and involved in performing (acting, dance) & loved all things pop culture (i guess that includes a love for the Disney princess movies when you’re 5 years old). i would watch the news as a little kid, be actually interested in the Time for kids magazines we got in school, and be very up to date on what was generally going on - that was my biggest interest.  the things i was interested in were all very different, but had one major thing in common - they were all a part of current media at the time.  a good example is the JonBenet Ramsey case.  i had a huge interest in high profile cases - mostly just the ones that were all over the media.  when JonBenet Ramsey was murdered, i was 10 years old. something about that case struck me - i wanted to learn more, so 5th grade me went out and bought a bunch of books to study on the case, and to this day follow anything going on.  same went for the OJ Simpson case as well as Princess Diana’s death. These were all really before the media made a case of EVERYTHING like they do now.  it’s kind of hard to pick and choose “my” cases when everything any celebrity does is made to be such a big deal. still, it comes down to the fact that i was interested and went through a lot to get a great understanding of things that the media presented.

for as long as i can remember, i’ve always been more interested in actually studying the fashion ads in Vogue, etc. rather than flipping through to get to the content. i’m not/have never been afraid to try new things that i see as up-and-coming, although maybe only suitable in LA or New York, while not caring what anyone else thinks (friends can back me up on that). finding good music (good to me, at least) has forever been a hobby of mine. years ago, i loved finding great youtube artists - such as justin bieber, before he was justin bieber and just getting tens of thousands of hits per video and singing in his bathroom.  some of the great people that i find and follow turn out to be superstars, some don’t.  the latest girl i had found awhile ago on youtube who started out with just thousands of hits like Justin and has hit millions as of now has recently landed gigs with Selena Gomez and commercials.  here we go.. as most people know, i love the jonas brothers.  i remember seeing them in a small feature in Teen Vogue magazine before they were ever on any label - so sometime back when i was in high school years ago - and thinking right then, wow, these guys are going to be huge. no one could pick them out of a crowd then.

i think my love of Disney and that “little girl” pop culture that i liked as well as following mainstream media that i have always been interested in feeds my interest of spotting young talent that turn out to fit in extremely well with the “mainstream,” whether it’s the music of what 13-18 year old girls would like, fashion that young adults may like (of course knew that high waisted jeans were stupid, a la Jessica Simpson.  Google it. ), or whatever.

my Love with a huge capital “L” of celebrity culture - including film, tv, music and fashion stars, none of that reality show stuff though, is pretty well-defined.  of course, as many might have learned in some type of media classes in college or just know, the media chooses what we read, not the other way around.  yes, i’m in the know of who is pregnant, who is divorcing, etc. - but it’s not important that i stay on top of ALL of it - that WOULD be a waste of time.  i’ve always thought i was able to pick and choose what MOST people would be interested in - again, back to a love and great knowledge of “mainstream” culture.  a lot of the times my passion for the entertainment industry combines - i love studying what celebrities wear (because they get to wear the BEST of the best designers) and am much more interested in the Oscar red carpet than the actual Oscars.  i would love to incorporate something like this into writing for a professional organization, or even becoming a personal assistant (they usually need to be in the know of celebrity culture aside from who they assist).

what in the world do i want to do with all of this, is what i get asked.  my answer is usually “something that sounds cool.”  the reason i don’t have any specific is because i can’t lock out a position that i may love but may not even know exists - yet. for example, whoever selects the music to go on every scene in programs, for example, on MTV.  that would be cool. another example would be a touring press secretary for a nationally touring mainstream (mainstream in any genre) band - this incorporates my degree and some of my internship experience, while staying relevant with what i really am interested in.  becoming a fashion stylist assistant for a modern stylist, or at least learning the ropes first, would be amazing.  writing about each/all of these things i love - for a blog, a magazine, etc. sounds really cool too.  these things and much more are not just things i like observing and following in media, online, and on my own - they’re things i really, really have a love for and have been trying to seek out to do for a living.

now that you have a more extensive knowledge, maybe than you wanted before you decided to read this, of what i want to do.. i guess with my almost 1,000 friends on here, i have to do the obvious and reach out to everyone to get awesome opportunities to learn the ropes even more on all these things that interest me.  because, again, i’m not tied down to wanting to just do one thing - although most friends know i’ve been focusing on the music industry lately.  i do have other huge interests in the entertainment industry that i would love to find career paths on. i’m willing to take on any opportunity that would help further me in any of these types of career paths (kind of why i’ve been talking about going to LA semi soon to seek opportunities out there). so, if anyone knows anyone who knows someone who knows someone else - you should let them know that you know a really hard worker with internship and regular work experience, ready and willing to learn the ropes.

seriously - i’m willing to take on just about any opportunity i think would put me in the right direction for any of the above awesome career paths.

p.s., the other side of what i want to do with my career is figuring out the best way to help important causes. if people didn’t need money to live, i’d probably just volunteer all the time.  but that’s another note, another time.
